I'm a runner. It wasn’t always that way. I found a cause, or the cause found me – the order is irrelevant. But that cause led me to run, and run repeatedly, for a reason.
It wasn’t easy to run for a reason. I had to step way beyond what was typical for me. Once I committed myself to something beyond what I knew as ordinary, I had a front row seat to watch the extraordinary happen. Along the way to becoming a runner, I witnessed the miraculous happen and was joined in the journey by many like-minded people. I could not have made this journey without them beside me, helping me move forward.
In the five years that I have been part of the “Be Change” movement I have completed four marathons with the Be Change team. I am living proof that almost anyone can do this. I invite you to join “Be Change” and watch incredible things happen in your life and in the lives of the kids that we run for.
So why am I telling you all this? Two Reasons:
1. To raise awareness - so that when you hear of the children of Oak Ridge Elementary in Oak Park, California, know that change for the better is happening.
2. To raise funds for the children of Oak Ridge Elementary through my efforts in the California International Marathon on December 4th, 2011.
I am part of a movement that is committed to securing one runner on behalf of every one of the 500-plus children on the Oak Ridge campus. Each runner is seeking to raise $1000 per child to cover: excellent after-school programming, literacy, nutrition and fitness awareness, and continued health care enrollment assistance. I’m asking you to consider sponsoring my run.
Take a moment and watch the videos on the left.
It will move you to see the world differently.
It will challenge you to consider the plight of an inner-city child.
It will change you, reminding you that life is better when we live and give of ourselves for others.
