A love for running is something I developed in just the past couple years. It has become my addiction as well as my therapy. I went through a lot in this past year from health issues and relationship changes to job and financial woes. My life has changed immensely over this time, but one thing has remained constant; Running each morning has kept me healthy, happy, and driven. It gives me time to myself to reflect which, along with faith, has kept me positive. Although my interest in it keeps me grounded, I felt compelled to take it a step further and challenge myself to be a part of something bigger than me. Although I have run other events, this will be my first full marathon and I intend to run for a reason.
The children of Oak Ridge Elementary survive in Oak Park, an economically deprived neighborhood that needs support after being long ignored in Sacramento.
So why am I telling you all this... because of two reasons:
1. To raise awareness so that when you hear of the children of Oak Park, you know that good is growing.
2. To raise funds through my efforts in the California International Marathon.
I am part of a movement that is committed to securing one runner on behalf of every child on that campus. Each runner is seeking to raise $1000 per child to cover: excellent after-school programming, literacy, nutrition and fitness
awareness, and continued health care enrollment assistance. I’m asking you to consider sponsoring my run. Take a moment and watch the video below.
It will move you to see the world different.
It will challenge you to consider the plight of an inner-city child.
It could change you, reminding you that life is better when we live and give for others.
Until then, we run.
