I am extremely proud to announce that I have been chosen by Photographers Without Borders to photograph Love Animal Sanctuary in order to promote animal welfare in Thailand this coming winter. I will be embarking on a 2 week journey just north of Chiang Mai to document this non profit organization, which focuses on farm, domestic, and wildlife animal rescue by creating a safe and healthy environment for these animals to live, adoption, and animal welfare education. The project will be focusing on raising awareness on how farm animals suffer in the food industry, and will provide a close up experience for people to better understand the situation. I will also be focusing on their work with the local temple’s dog and cat animal shelters to help these abandoned pets get more attention and interest.
Animal welfare is low on the totem pole for most people in Thailand. They don’t understand spaying and neutering pets is the way to control an overpopulation of cats and dogs. Sadly, they result in poisoning their pets to “get a hold of the situation.” Slaughter houses are violent and inhumane, and farm animals are often left suffering and unattended to. The sanctuary was founded over 21 years ago to change this; to offer a place of equality for all living animals, and to educate the community in animal welfare. The organization is currently developing their bovine shelter for rescued cows and water buffalo to be developed into a free energy plant by turning their waste into gas to run generators and provide electricity to their project site and neighborhood.
It is an honor to support Love Animal Sanctuary in their efforts to create a stable and loving environment for all living things and to be an integral part in their education process. Through these images I will show you the compassion, and respect we need to have for animals and people alike. The photographs will be used on social networks and within the organization to raise awareness and support for the ongoing developments at the sanctuary.
Since this is a volunteer project, I am looking for financial support. I need to raise $3500, to pay for airfare, vaccinations, travel insurance, program fees, and transport. Your donations are tax-deductible and anything donated over the amount will go directly to Love Animal Sanctuary.

About Love Animal Sanctuary:
Founded by Marianne Willemse, the sanctuary is situated in Mae Rim district 19 km north of Chiang Mai. It presently houses over ninety animals, all formerly unwanted or abused, domestic pets, farm animals and some wildlife. Twenty six cows, bulls and buffalos who escaped the slaughter house, also reside there. All the bulls have been sterilized. This is their home for life. Love Animal Sanctuary is situated on two separate properties in a small village, with a total of 17 rai.
