Why You ROC!!

When confronted with human suffering, on any scale, the impulse is to do something. Many of us share a common bond because we have been touched by someone who has been affected by ovarian cancer. On September 14, 2014 over a thousand people will come together in Sacramento to Run for Ovarian Cancer (ROC). Now, in its sixth year, the race has a new name and charitable organization. Let’s ROC together!

This year’s Let’s ROC!! 5k is organized by the Ovarian Cancer Education & Research Network, Inc. The mission of OCERN is to advocate for research for the early detection, treatment and cure of ovarian cancer. We promote ovarian cancer education in our communities and will provide a network of resources and support for women and their families. OCERN is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization and is comprised of several dedicated volunteers who have a personal connection to ovarian cancer.

22,000 Reasons to ROC!!

Each year more than 22,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and approximately 15,000 women die annually from the disease. Unfortunately, most cases are diagnosed in the later stages when the prognosis is poor. However, if diagnosed and treated early, when the cancer is confined to the ovary, the five-year survival rate is over 90 percent. There is currently no accurate screening test for the early detection of ovarian cancer; therefore, it is important to know and understand what the risks and symptoms are. Our goals are to educate women and their families about this disease and also raise much needed funds to further ovarian cancer research.
