Dear close friends and family,
I have been given the opportunity to serve on a mssion trip this November in Haiti with the Global Mission (www.theglobalmission.org). This was definitely something that was not even a thought or even on my radar unitl I recently heard a message from our Pastor JP Jones (www.crosslinechurch.com) where he was explaining that we need to work out what God works in. After this service it was brought to my attention that they were putting together a mens team to go and serve in Hailti and I felt called to go.
Immediately following the earthquake, Haiti suffered numerous deaths, as well as leaving over 1 million homeless. After the earthquake the relief and outpouring of love, me included was quick and swift from countries all around the world. Three years later, there are still over 400,000 people that are still homeless and if you are lucky enough to have the money to rent somewhere, there is not a house to rent becuase out of the 200,000 homes that were destroyed only 15,000 have been repaired and 5,000 have been replaced so there is still a huge number of people living in tent cities. So obviously there is still much work that needs to be done as far as structurally, spiritually, physically and mentally.
When praying and contemplating on taking this trip, I began to think of how blessed I am to be able to provide a living for my family and to be born in this beautiful country and to be afforded the opportunites that are available here in the U.S. These same opportunites that I take for granted such as eating 3 times a day, drinking clean water that I am not going to get sick from and having a roof over my head, are not afforded to the people of Haiti.
Our team is going to be doing some very exciting things to assist while down there. Here is a rough itinerary of some of things we wil doing:
1. We will be meeting with local pastors and business owners to listen to thier needs and see where we could assist them.
2. We will also be attending the local orphanage that the team that vistied last year felt led to build. As a result of this CHANJE was built. (James 1:27)
3. We will be feeding the hungry in one of the poorest of neighborhoods in Port Au Prince. (Matthew 25: 35-40)
4. We will be praying and sharing the good news of out Lord and Savior Jesus Christ because with him all things are possible. (Philippians 4:13)
Obviously I know we are not going to change Haiti in 7 days , but If we can make one person smile, feed someone who is hungry or bring someone to the Lord and procure their eternal salvation than the whole trip was worthwile.
As with any trip there are associated costs so I would so I would be eternally grateful for any financial gift that you felt led to give. You can pay either through this website or you can send a tax deductible check made out to The Global Mission (www.theglobalmission.org) to the address listed below:
