As you may know we recently came alongside Camille and Esther Ntoto to plant a church in the DRC Congo. We have been in relationship with them for a period spanning over 10 years. They both grew up in DR Congo, went to graduate school in California, and felt God's call for them to return to their country and serve in one of toughest cities, Goma. It was therefore so clear that we were to engage with them as God clearly called them to plant a church. The journey has begun with a ton of excitement and here is why.

We have an amazing opportunity this summer to send two groups to Congo in July in partnership with  A New Day church in Goma, Congo.

The first team we are sending is through our legal ministry at Mariners. We have a group of dedicated lawyers who are desiring to use their gifts and education to advance God's Kingdom relative to justice issues.  We will be sending a five-person team of lawyers and church leaders that will host a three-day conference in Goma, Congo, teaching on subjects of sexual violence, servant leadership, and the International Criminal Court.

Our Legal ministry has connected with ALARM Ministries. ALARM is an African led and African based organization that focuses on equipping leaders—including lawyers, judges, military personnel, government officials, and church leaders—with the skills and knowledge needed to transform their communities through training, servant leadership, and the Christian message of forgiveness and reconciliation.

Secondly, we have an amazing opportunity to bring together our church partners from Congo, Uganda, Kenya and Sri-Lanka  to focus on racial reconciliation and community empowerment in Congo. This is a very exciting collaborative vision where Prashan DeVisser, one of our partners from Sri Lanka started a youth-led racial reconciliation movement in 2008 throughout his home country. His passion and vision for reconciliation struck the hearts of the Ntoto's in 2012, and has now birthed this opportunity to bring this youth-led racial reconciliation to the DR Congo. We will be sending a small team to join the Ntoto's and Prashan's team to help host the first Congo Unites Conference.

The vision for the conference is

“To unite the youth of all tribal and religious groups across Congo, in a movement which provides hope and promotes reconciliation, creating a peaceful and prosperous nation for future generations”

To celebrate and value the diversity of Congo’s different tribal and religious heritages, each of which enrich our lives as common citizens of Congo. To see the combined strength of all young people in our diverse nation used to secure peace and prosperity to create a united Congo where young people are intentional about working together with members of different tribes, religions and classes for the sustainable development of our beautiful nation. To transform the youth of Congo into people who have hope for their future and their country; who are proactive in working for the positive development of Congo.

There is so much beauty in being the global Church, and we are so excited for our teams from Mariners to experience God's work in DR Congo and grow deeper in the relationships He has given us.
