Hey everyone I’m sending this to you in hopes that you will be able to help sponsor me for a 24 hour surf-a-thon I’m participating in for my new sponsor, the nonprofit organization SURF 24 “Project Save Our Surf". I’m surfing on the Santa Barbara Seals team from 3-4 p.m. on Saturday, October 16th Meet this years beneficiaries! These organizations do such amazing work at the local level and beyond, I could not pass up the opportunity to work with them. I'm also looking forward to going to Africa with Tanna and Shaun in March and help build a water well  for the Tumelo Home and distribute water filters to villages and  others that are less un fortunate.

Santa Monica Baykeeper
This year, proceeds from PSOS benefit Santa Monica Baykeeper's DrainWatch program.
This program tests levels of bacteria from runoff and city drains which flow into the LA coastline from Malibu to Marina Del Ray. When people in the community suspect pollution, they can call a hotline and a volunteer is sent out to sample the water. The sample is then brought back to a lab to be tested, each test for bacteria alone costs $100. Currently it is unsafe to swim in Los Angeles County beaches at least two days after it rains, due to the high concentration of pollution running into the ocean. As many of you know and may have experienced, high levels of bacteria can make surfers and swimmers sick with sinus infections, staff infections, rashes and colds etc. Santa Monica Baykeeper is determined to make a change in local water and beach laws, by using the test results found with their DrainWatch program. Waves For Water
This years proceedS go toward this young non-profit started by pro surfer Jon Rose and local surfer Christian Troy. Their mission is simple, "get clean water to everyone that needs it." They do this by sending easy to use water filters to areas without access to clean water. One $50 filter gives clean drinking water to a village of 100 people for more than an entire year. In addition they have started the Clean Water Couriers Program which allows people traveling in remote areas to pack water filters with them and then contact local organizations to get the filters to people in need. In three years Waves For Water has distributed the filters throughout Haiti, Japan, Brazil, Indonesia, Pakistan and the Amazon changing the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. In addition United Nations, NIKE and SurfAid International have all teamed up with Waves for Water to help fund the distribution of water filters to other remote villages and disaster stricken areas in the world. Inside the Outdoors
This years proceeds go toward Inside the Outdoors, who takes inner city children on field trips where they learn about our environment and the eco-systems and animals that reside therein. This year we have chosen the Upper Newport Bay field trip program that teaches kids about the importance of the wetland habitats that run along the Pacific Flyway along the coast of Newport. The kids learn about the effects of pollution while they discover organisms, plants and animals first hand and learn about specific adaptations and the ways they depend on each other for survival. Tumelo Home
This years proceeds go toward Tumelo Home, an orphanage near Johannesburg, South Africa that provides a home for mentally and physically challenged children. Project Save Our Surf has decided to expand our efforts internationally this year, by providing a fresh water well for the home and it's residence. A small team will be traveling to South Africa to oversee the project and in addition to building the well, will be taking the Waves For Water filters to distribute them throughout the trip.
