On August 9th we will be sending two teams together to Sri Lanka to learn, serve, and grow with our global family as we engage with two amazing opportunities God has given us this summer. We will be with our church partner, Kithu Sevana Ministries. Mariners Church has been partnered with Kithu Sevana Ministries, since 2005. Kithu Sevana Ministries is an indigenous church planting movement in Sri Lanka that has a vision to reach the unreached people in Sri Lanka and South Asia.
It’s with this vision in mind that Kithu Sevana has hosted a conference called “Asia Arise” for the past 15 years. The focus of this conference is to bring Christian leaders from churches across Asia together to vision, strategize and pray for the churches in Asia. Mariners Church has the privilege to partner with the Asia Arise conference this year. A team of Mariners staff, elders and our Senior Pastor, Kenton Beshore will be attending the conference. While Pastor Kenton will be a keynote speaker, the team will have the opportunity to interact with Christian leaders and pastors from all across Asia.
In addition to the conference, half of our team will be partnering to host and participate in the first Global Teen Leadership Summit. Our vision is to provide opportunity for young leaders to start thinking globally, while challenging and expanding their worldviews by engaging in cross-cultural experiences and conversations. The focus of the conference is to develop these young leaders to be fearless influences in their local churches and countries. Students representing 11 countries from around the world will be attending the conference. We are so proud of the students we have picked from Mariners Church who have displayed incredible servant leadership potential. This will be an amazing opportunity for our students to grow in their leadership alongside their global peers.
As we look at going to Sri Lanka this summer, we know the experience is not just for the handful of our team members. We invite you all to be on this journey with us. We need your prayers more than anything, as we know this is a spiritual battle we are walking into. Please be praying for protection over the team. For the Holy Spirit to move powerfully during the conference as many nations come together to proclaim the name of Christ as one. Both teams are also required to raise financial support. If you feel called to support this team financially, please click the above button that reads ‘give now.’ We appreciate your support and covering in any way.
Thank you for coming on this journey to Sri Lanka with us. We can’t wait to share what God does during this time!
Sincerely – Sri Lanka 2014 Team
